Water-Filled Barrier
Carried empty, ballasted on site. A single tall unit is 8–9 kg to lift and 100 kg once filled with water, so the same barrier that two people position by hand resists being pushed or blown over — and is emptied again when the works move. It is the product for road works, lane closure and diversions, event separation and crowd lines, and for holding a works area away from live traffic.
On this page: how water ballast works and where it goes (01), the published dimensions, weights, temperature band and wind grade (02), what the moulding and the interlock give you (03), the two types and what each confirms on order (04), packing, price and delivery (05), and four questions answered from this page (06).
Weight you bring as water, not as steel
A barrier that has to be moved cannot be heavy on the truck. This one solves that by carrying its ballast as water: the unit goes on site at 8–9 kg, is filled from a hose, and stands at 100 kg. The tall unit is blow-moulded in one hollow piece, 102 cm long, 183 cm high and 400 mm wide, and that height is the part the manufacturer describes as customisable — tell us the height you need and it is confirmed on the order drawing.
Units connect to one another, which is what turns single barriers into a continuous separation line. That connection is the working detail: a filled unit on its own is a heavy object, but a run of connected units behaves as a line, which is what a lane closure or a diversion needs.
In the family it is the counterpart to the hoarding rather than a replacement for it. The municipal hoarding closes a works frontage over a long contract; this barrier redirects traffic in front of it and comes away at the end of the shift. Where the line has to hold people rather than vehicles, the crowd-control barrier is the lighter, hand-carried answer.
Water-filled barrier — the published figures
Dimensions, weights, the temperature band and the wind grade are published for the tall blow-moulded unit. The rotomoulded type is published as a material only, with its dimensions and weight confirmed per order.
| Product / model reference | Water-filled barrier — plastic water ballast barrier in two types: blow-moulded tall barrier and rotomoulded imported PE barrier. Quoted against your requirement; no catalogue model number is issued until the requirement is agreed. |
|---|---|
| Type 1 — tall water barrier (blow-moulded) | Blow-moulded in one hollow piece. Body colour emerald blue or red; other colours can be supplied to requirement. Units interconnect with each other. Withstands wind force of grade 7–8. |
| Length L (tall water barrier) | 102 cm |
| Height H (tall water barrier) | 183 cm (customisable) |
| Width W (tall water barrier) | 400 mm |
| Net weight (tall water barrier) | 8–9 kg |
| Weight when filled with water (tall water barrier) | 100 kg |
| Weather resistance (tall water barrier) | −40 °C to +60 °C |
| Service life (tall water barrier) | More than two years, as stated by the manufacturer. |
| Connection (tall water barrier) | Units interconnect with each other. |
| Colour (tall water barrier) | Body in emerald blue or red; other colours can be supplied to requirement. |
| Process (tall water barrier) | Blow-moulded in one hollow piece; withstands wind force of grade 7–8. The manufacturer states that the technical indices meet the relevant domestic standards. That statement is the manufacturer's claim for the product and is not a certificate or approval held by us; buyers who need CE / EN / ASTM documentation: tell us the standard and we will confirm in writing what we can supply. |
| Type 2 — rotomoulded water barrier | Material: imported PE. The manufacturer publishes no dimensions, weight or price for this type — send us the quantity and the run length you need and we confirm the moulding, the unit size and the price for the order. |
| Packing | Empty units nest for shipping, which is what keeps a container load of barriers compact; cartons, pallets and the exact packing method are confirmed per specification with the loading plan. |
What the ballast, the moulding and the interlock give you
- Light to move, heavy to stay. 8–9 kg net and 100 kg filled, so the same unit is handled by two people and holds its place.
- One-piece blow-moulded body. A single hollow moulding, with no seam to open along the base.
- Units that connect. Individual barriers link into a continuous separation line for a lane closure or a diversion.
- A tall unit with a custom height. 183 cm high as published and described as customisable, confirmed on the order drawing.
- Rated for wind force grade 7–8. The published grade for the tall unit, which is what makes it usable on an exposed carriageway.
- A wide temperature band. −40 °C to +60 °C, published as the weather resistance of the tall unit.
- Two colours, or your requirement. Emerald blue or red as published, with other colours supplied to requirement.
- Empty units nest. Which is what keeps a container load of barriers compact before filling.
Two types, and what each one confirms on order
The tall unit is the published one: its length, width, heights, weights, temperature band and wind grade are all stated, and the height is the figure the manufacturer leaves open. So the order settles the height, the colour, the quantity and the run length, and the rest follows from the published data.
The rotomoulded type is published as a material — moulded from imported PE — and nothing else. No dimensions, weight or price figures are given for it, so the moulding, the unit size and the cost are confirmed for the order from the quantity and the run you need. Where a project is written to a named standard, we will not claim the barrier meets it: the manufacturer states that the technical indices of the tall unit meet the relevant domestic standards, that is the manufacturer's claim, and buyers who need CE / EN / ASTM documentation are asked to name the standard so we can confirm in writing what can be supplied.
Empty units nest for the load
Empty units nest for shipping, which is what keeps a container load of barriers compact — the product is nearly all air until it is filled, and the load is planned that way. Cartons, pallets and the exact packing method are confirmed per specification with the loading plan.

Four questions, answered from this page
- How heavy is a unit?
- 8–9 kg net and 100 kg when filled with water, for the tall blow-moulded unit.
- What are the tall unit's dimensions?
- 102 cm long, 183 cm high and 400 mm wide, with the height described by the manufacturer as customisable and confirmed on the order drawing.
- What wind and temperature is it rated for?
- The tall unit withstands wind force of grade 7–8, with a weather resistance of −40 °C to +60 °C.
- What is the rotomoulded type?
- A barrier moulded from imported PE. The manufacturer publishes no dimensions, weight or price for it, so the moulding, unit size and price are confirmed for the order from the quantity and run length.
- Do the units connect?
- Yes. Units interconnect with each other to form a continuous run, and empty units nest for shipping.
